Plant and equipment used in industry are by the very nature of the tasks they have to perform, subject to wear and tear. As such they require periodic maintenance to maintain optimum efficiency, or to correct any problems occurring in their operation. This maintenance is of prime importance in prolonging the life of these (usually expensive) tools and equipment and protecting those operating these tools from the hazardous effects of vibration, noise, dust etc.
